Colonial Center Galleries Art Exhibit ( 8:00 am )

Now on display in the Second Floor Galleries at The Colonial Center in South Hill:

The Colonial Center would like to welcome the artwork of William Ward Moseley in their galleries.

South Hill, VA August 19, 2014: Now through September 25, artworks by Mr. William Ward Moseley will be on display in the Colonial Center's Galleries. Mr. Moseley has been an active painter since his retirement from the practice of architecture in 1990. A graduate of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia, he received a degree in building design, he has also studied oils with international artist Wolf Kahn, watercolors with Frank Web (AWS) and Eric Wiegardt (SP), and pastels with Ben Konis (PSA). 

Moseley has developed a unique style in watercolors, pastels, and oils, allowing great expressiveness and flexibility with the vibrant use of color. His subjects include landscape scene of Lake Gaston, North Carolina; his winter studio in Naples, Florida; Marco Island; and his alma mater: Virginia Tech, among others.

The Colonial Center galleries are open for public viewing from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The galleries are also open to patrons during all Colonial Center performance events.

Mr. Moseley will be on site on Saturday, August 23 during intermission of that evening's performance of The Sound of Music. He will be answering questions about his displayed works and signing copies of his book, 'An Affair With Art'.

Incredible Years Parenting Classes ( 10:00 am )

 

Registration has begun for two upcoming Incredible Years Parenting classes designed to help parents reduce misbehavior and increase social interaction with their children.

 

Funded by Smart Start and N.C. Cooperative Extension, the classes are offered free to parents, grandparents and caregivers of children ages 3 to 5 years old who reside in Vance, Granville and Franklin counties.

There will be a day and a night class. The day class will meet Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 20 through Dec. 17. The night class will meet Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 21 through Dec. 18.

Each class includes materials, snacks and childcare.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion and a $25 gift card.

Crewe Public Library Doll Exhibit ( 8:00 am )

 

 Florence Oliver of Crewe has on exhibit at the Crewe Public Library during the month of August, shelves full of dolls, in beautiful outfits crocheted by her talented and loving hands.

 Each doll is in ‘a one of a kind’ outfit and Mrs. Oliver’s sense of style and imagination has produced over 125 dolls most which she has given away as special gifts to brighten a child’s day or for adults who are sick or shut-in.

 Patience and love for her fellow man has made Mrs. Oliver a very special person with a talent for helping others with a hand-made gift.

Festival starts August 29 with street dance at 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. 'Steve Owens and the Summertime Band'. Steve Owens And The Summertime Band ( 8:00 am )

Steve Owens and the Summertime Band at 30th Festival

Firday night, August 29, down town Littleton will be the place to be at 7 p.m. in the municipal parking lot with your lawn chairs and dancing feet. Steve Owens and the Summertime Band will kick off the 30th Litteton Lake Gaston Festival.

Eat supper before the show starts, or throughout the evening. Food vendors and ocal eateries will be selling a variety of culinary favorites for your dining pleasure, starting at 5 p.m.

Return in the morning for a full day of family fun on Saturday, August 30. Festival starts at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

North Main Street will be lined with crafters, vendors, and local non profit organizations. Stop for refreshments at the Littleton Woman's Club Outdoor Cafe in BB&T's drive through area on your way to the Stray Cats Rod& Custom Show located in the parking lot behind the bank and Futrell Pharmacy.

Carnival type rides will be in the municipal parking lot parallel to Nor4th Main Street. A variety of local performers will provide live entertainment on stage throughout the ay. Line up and schedule will be published closer to the event.

Raffle tickets at $1 donation will be onsale with a list of great prizes. More info soon.

Littleton Lions Club will be cooking 1,000 pounds of barbeque which will be sold from the Pepsi Booths in sandwiches Friday night at $4 or $8 per pound. And, on Saturday from 11-3 by the plate at $8 that includes slaw, baked beans, and bread, and by the pound. Eat out under the tent in the food court, or eat in at the Lions Den on Ransom Street.

The Festival now in its 30th year continues to promote Littleton as a place to live and do business, and provide a two day event where everyone can go and have fun.

The Littleton lake Gaston Festival is organized by the Littleton Lion's Club and money reaised will go to local organizations, and Lion's service projects.

In the meantime, makr your calendars to attend the 30th Littleton Lake Gston Festival on August 29 and 30, and tell your friends and neighbors.
