2nd Annual Breast Cancer Archery Shoot October 11, 2014 at Buggs Island Wildlife Club in Clarksville, VA. Registration starts at 9:00am, $20.00 registration fee. On site will be Food, Venders, Music, Raffles, Bounce house for kids, Flying coon shoot for kids, Blind Draw Corn Hole Tournament @2pm $5.00 per person! Also we will be selling BBQ plates for $8.00 at 5pm!!! All procedes will go to the local Breast Cancer Foundations!

The Clarksville First Baptist Child Development Center is sponsoring a raffle to raise money for the center.  The prize is 2 tickets on the 50 yard line lower level to the Dec. 28 Washington Redskins vs Dallas Cowboys football game at FedEx Field and 2 tickets to the Touchdown Club at the field.  The Touchdown Club includes a free buffet and open bar with live music, performances by the Redskins Cheerleaders & Marching Band.  The Touchdown Club opens 3 hours before kickoff and again at half-time thru the 3rd quarter, and it's heated!!  Raffle tickets may be purchased from any member of Clarksville First Baptist Church or at South Hill Bounce & Bowl for $10.  Raffle drawing will be held October 31.

    HYWC is a non profit sports organization that teaches the sport of wrestling to children from Kindergarten through 8th grades.  We teach sportsmanship, self discipline and positive encouragement.  We are a non discriminatory organization that encourages all children to participate in the sport of wrestling.  Wrestling is both a team sport and an individual sport where the child can excel through team work outs and independant training.  Wrestling is a lifelong sport that is passed from generation to generation. 

    We are having sign ups Sept 15the and 22nd at the new Armory across from the YMCA. From 5-7 pm. Practice begins on October 13 6-8 pm.

The Upper Room Ministries of the South Hill United Methodist Church will be holding a Community Service Sale every first and third Saturday of the month beginning in September from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the old Madeline's Thrift Store location next to the Medicine Shoppe in South Hill. They will also be taking donations so if you have something to drop off you may do so during that time frame. They are in particular need of furniture items and appliances to help those in need. The Upper Room Ministries is now a 501C3 organization and funds raised at the community service sales will go to help with missions and other church projects.

In addition, local health care professionals from Emporia, South Hill and Southside Virginia will host breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including life after cancer treatment, living with the diagnosis of leukemia and lymphomas, coping with side effects, tips for family caregivers, pain management, nutrition and more. The event is free; light breakfast and lunch are provided, but space is limited to the first 100 participants. LGFD Benefit Fall Trail Ride ( 8:00 am )

Lake Gaston Fire Dept. Benefit Trail Ride

October 10-12 'True Story Acres' home of Wayne & Christy Lunceford, 612 Blackridge Rd. La Crosse, VA 23950

This is a special event in conjunction with our local Rosemont Vineyard and Winery which will be providing a private wine tasting near the end of the ride for those who are interested in participating. The cost of the wine tasting is $5 per person. Hitching posts are provided for your horsed and the winery will deliver any of your purchases to the camp for free. 

Ride out by 11 a.m. on Saturday morning in order to be at the Winery by 3:00 for those participating in that event. Lunch is available Saturday on the trail by the local Boy Scouts Troop #7400 for donation. Dinner at 5 p.m. and dance to follow. Music by DJ both Firday and Saturday nights. Dinner available Friday by donation.

-Admission: Adult, $35   Children 12 and under, $25 (Dinner and dance only, $10)

-Pre-registation is appreciated, please send checks to Christy at the address above

-Primitive camping is availbable Friday and Saturday nights

-Gates open Firday at Noon and trails are open for Firday & Sunday riding as well

-Water is available at the barn and shop for watering horsed only, no bathing

Lake Gaston Fire Dept. Benefit Trail Ride

October 10-12 'True Story Acres' home of Wayne & Christy Lunceford, 612 Blackridge Rd. La Crosse, VA 23950

This is a special event in conjunction with our local Rosemont Vineyard and Winery which will be providing a private wine tasting near the end of the ride for those who are interested in participating. The cost of the wine tasting is $5 per person. Hitching posts are provided for your horsed and the winery will deliver any of your purchases to the camp for free. 

Ride out by 11 a.m. on Saturday morning in order to be at the Winery by 3:00 for those participating in that event. Lunch is available Saturday on the trail by the local Boy Scouts Troop #7400 for donation. Dinner at 5 p.m. and dance to follow. Music by DJ both Firday and Saturday nights. Dinner available Friday by donation.

-Admission: Adult, $35   Children 12 and under, $25 (Dinner and dance only, $10)

-Pre-registation is appreciated, please send checks to Christy at the address above

-Primitive camping is availbable Friday and Saturday nights

-Gates open Firday at Noon and trails are open for Firday & Sunday riding as well

-Water is available at the barn and shop for watering horsed only, no bathing

-Negative Coggins required. Everyone is required to sign a waiver. No stallions

-Children under 18 must wear helmets and be accompanied by parent

-No dogs are allowed on the trails and all dogs must be on a leash in camp

-No alcohol, smoking or motor vehicles allowed on trails. Please do not litter.

The Upper Room Ministries of the South Hill United Methodist Church will be holding a Community Service Sale every first and third Saturday of the month beginning in September from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the old Madeline's Thrift Store location next to the Medicine Shoppe in South Hill. They will also be taking donations so if you have something to drop off you may do so during that time frame. They are in particular need of furniture items and appliances to help those in need. The Upper Room Ministries is now a 501C3 organization and funds raised at the community service sales will go to help with missions and other church projects.

Fall Harvest Days ( 9:00 am )

Harvey Hills Farm, LLC in Oxford is holding their 1st annual harvest days at the farm. There will be pumpkins, mums, pansies, and othe fall items to purchase along with some small activities for the kids. This will be every weekend from September 27th to November 2nd. FREE Parenting Classes ( 8:00 am )

The Southside Community Services are offering parenting classes in Mecklenburg, Brunswick, and HalifaxCounties beginning September 17. Classes are free and you must register in advance. For more info, call Kevin at 572-6916 ext. 1550.

 

 




Halifax Youth Wrestling ( 5:00 pm )

    HYWC is a non profit sports organization that teaches the sport of wrestling to children from Kindergarten through 8th grades.  We teach sportsmanship, self discipline and positive encouragement.  We are a non discriminatory organization that encourages all children to participate in the sport of wrestling.  Wrestling is both a team sport and an individual sport where the child can excel through team work outs and independant training.  Wrestling is a lifelong sport that is passed from generation to generation. 

    We are having sign ups Sept 15the and 22nd at the new Armory across from the YMCA. From 5-7 pm. Practice begins on October 13 6-8 pm.
